We consider that the School Council is a very important part of the DBIS ethos. The School Council is composed of student representatives, one being chosen from each class. Under the chairmanship of the School Council Leader, the students meet on a regular basis and discuss issues of concern to the students in their school life. The issues raised can range over the students thoughts about the lunch menu, suggestions for school trips and events, students feelings about behavioural issues and other aspects of school life of concern to the students. These issues are discussed in the council meetings under the leadership of the teacher responsible and those suggestions that are decided to contribute most positively to the operation of the school are then raised with the school leadership team and Principal. In this way, we believe that the students engagement is vastly improved as they learn to manage responsibility and to consider others points of view through the discussions that they take part in.
